Prisoners in the Tower who attracted unwelcome attention could expect to be thrown into the 'Little Ease'. This hole was so small 4' square at the base, and 6' 4" high that it was impossible to stand, sit or lie down properly. In the winter the cold would have been unbearable.
The "Little Ease" was designed in the 10th Century
to hold disobedient prisoners and keep them alive, but in extreme discomfort.
There was no toilet or any light. Prisoners had to sit in their own filth in complete darkness. After a long period of time spent in such a confined space with no hope of release they would often go insane.

The number of children using the internet may have dropped in recent years, but the age at which children start to use the web is getting younger and younger. It’s never too early to start teaching your child about responsible online behaviour
Responsible online behaviour in children is not without its challenges, especially in today’s digital age where the internet is an integral part of our daily lives. So much of what our children do these days revolves around being online, from doing schoolwork and catching up with friends, to playing games and sharing experiences.
To some extent, the internet has undoubtedly enriched our lives, but it has also exposed us to a whole host of new risks. Children in particular can be vulnerable online, so it’s important to encourage responsible online behaviour and make sure they are aware of the potential dangers.
The good news is that there are a number of ways you can help your child to develop responsible online behaviour. Here are eight tips:
1. Talk to your child about online safety
The first step is to talk to your child about online safety. Make sure they understand the risks and that you are always there to listen if they have any concerns. It’s important to create an open and honest dialogue, so that your child feels comfortable coming to you with any problems.
2. Set rules and boundaries
Once you have talked to your child about online safety, it’s important to set some rules and boundaries. These could include things like limiting the amount of time they spend online, the websites they can visit, and the people they can talk to online.
3. Use parental controls
Parental controls can be a useful way to help you to keep your child safe online. They can be used to block inappropriate websites and , and to limit the amount of time your child spends online.
4. Monitor your child’s online activity
It’s important to monitor your child’s online activity to make sure they are staying safe. You can do this by checking their browsing history, their social media accounts, and their emails.
5. Teach your child about cyberbullying
Cyberbullying is a serious problem that can have a devastating impact on children. Make sure your child knows what cyberbullying is, and how to deal with it if they are ever targeted.
6. Encourage your child to be respectful online
It’s important to teach your child to be respectful online. This means being respectful of other people’s opinions, even if they don’t agree with them. It also means not posting anything that could be hurtful or offensive.
7. Encourage your child to be critical of online information
Not everything you read online is true. It’s important to teach your child to be critical of online information, and to always check the facts before they believe something.
8. Be a role model
The best way to teach your child about responsible online behaviour is to be a role model yourself. If your child sees you using the internet responsibly, they are more likely to do so themselves.
By following these tips, you can help your child to develop responsible online behaviour. This will help them to stay safe online and to make the most of all that the internet has to offer.
