the orange curtains cover all the windows,
only the dim lights of the bedside lamps
cast faint glows on the walls.
a soft groan is heard from the bed
and a hand reaches out from under the covers,
turning off the lights with a click,
leaving the room in total darkness.
a soft sigh is heard as the sleeper turns over
and buries their face into a soft pillow,
the orange curtains glow in the moonlight
casting an eerie glow on the room.
the darkness is interrupted only by the ticking
of the old clock on the wall and the creaks
of the old wooden floor as the sleeper tosses
and turns, trying to find a comfortable position.
after what feels like an eternity, the sleeper
finally gives up and sits up on the bed,
they reach for the bedside lamp and turn it on,
the room is bathed in a warm light.
the sleeper gets out of bed and walks over
to the window, they pull back the curtains
and look out at the sleeping city below,
the twinkling lights of the buildings
are a stark contrast to the darkness of the night sky.
the sleeper's eyes wander to the night sky
and they spot a shooting star, they close
their eyes and make a wish, then they open
their eyes and smile.
they turn away from the window and walk back
to the bed, they get back in bed and close
their eyes, within minutes they are asleep,
dreaming of the wish they made upon the star.
